Christmas dessert: Santa cupcakes

We love themed recipes and this one's a hoot! We’ve asked around for special Christmas dessert recipes and wanted to share a finger-licking (themed) one for Santa cupcakes. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Santa Cupcakes

Total time: 50 minutes
  • 1 packet White cake mix (regular size)
  • 16 ounces Vanilla frosting (about 1-2/3 cups)
  • Red gel or paste food coloring
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Red Hots
  • Red jimmies
  • Brown M&M's (minis)
  • Sweetened shredded coconut
  1. Prepare and bake the cake mix according to the package instructions for cupcakes, filling paper-lined muffin cups to about two-thirds full. 
  2. Allow the cupcakes to cool in their pans for 10 minutes before removing to wire racks; cool completely.
  3. Tint 2/3 cup frosting red with food coloring. Place 3 tablespoons of white frosting in a food-safe plastic bag, and cut a 1/4-in. hole in one corner (reserve for piping).
  4. Use the remaining white frosting to cover two-thirds of each cupcake. For hats, cover the remaining third of each cupcake with red frosting. Pipe fur trim with white frosting; add marshmallows for pompoms. Decorate with M&M's, Red Hots, and jimmies for faces, and add coconut for beards.
